Heinekin Advert

Close to the corner of Broadway and 4th. I've yet to see another billboard around town like this one. When I passed by there earlier today, it wasn't there anymore. This photo was taken a few weeks ago.

The Barclay

I passed by this empty space facing Main St. at The Barclay on the corner of Main St. and 4th.

Anybody know what is going to become of it?

Space Invader at The Standard

Word had it that there was a Space Invader somewhere at The Standard. Last year I went a few times, and walked all over the place looking for it.

I went to the rooftop bar of The Standard the other night to take a break from work. I spent a good chunk of my time there standing by the rail with a drink in hand watching people excersize away on the stair climbers at the building across the street. I then turned around to leave, looked up... and there it was...

...The last remaining Space Invader that-I-am-aware-of in downtown.

5th St Records on 4th St

Nah.... the Sci Fi channel was filming a pilot on Tuesday and Wednesday right next to Bar 107.

(On Thursday, Carrie Underwood filmed a music video a few meters away.)

Transient Murals

A few weeks ago the Continental Gallery had an evening of exhibiting anti-war poster art. As a part of the show, temporary murals were being drawn onto a big wall on 4th St with a projector. Each picture lasted about a few minutes. This is what I caught outside my window:

Charlie

If you have gone to the Bradbury Building lately and have noticed this statue of Charlie Chaplin, and had a deja vous about seeing the same statue before but in a different context, thats because its on loan from the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, where it permenantly resides.

Not sure when it goes back to the Roosevelt, but there is a note nearby the statue that says that it is on loan from the Roosevelt so I am not just making this up.

Carlos

A few weeks ago, word in the neighborhood had it that Carlos Santana was playing his guitar on the rooftop of the Rosslyn. This is a classic example of of how my neighborhood can be so random and surreal. I am not much of a fan of Santana, but I do like more than dislike his music and I just had to check it out for the shits 'n giggles. Actually, one of the most stunning guitar performances I have ever seen (not in person) is his Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock, 1969. He looks like he is having one big long orgasm. I admire his intensity.

So I went up to the rooftop and it turns out that he was filming a video.

One of my favorite kinds of pictures to take are of people taking photos of people. In between takes, the film crew and extras were eating snacks, lounging, and taking photos.

I was able to sneak in a shot of him before I left...
