What I learned from Bert Green Today

I stopped by Banquette Cafe this morning to get breakfast before heading off to work.

I asked him, "whats up with equestrian police"? and he told me that police typically ride on horses when they are trying to do crowd control, and it apparantly works. When police go in to a crowd while on top of a big strong animal, apparantly the crowd will likely step away. I guess I can see that.

We both agreed that when police leisurely ride their horses around downtown, they actually look pretty friendly. -And I say this as somebody who is scared of cops.

He also told me that the police station on 6th St and Wall has pamphlets or information and stuff about their use of horses. When I get around to it I think I'll walk over there and check it out.

That makes sense. I remember horse cops charging at people during the LA Street Scene, just the sight of them headed towards you made people scramble.

I remember seeing them at one of the Lakers victory parades a few years ago. They seemed to be getting too close to people and children, though. It made me nervous.
